Pomegranate Wine, Black Tea, Bubu Cake… Be Careful When Buying These 11 Batches of Non-Compliant Foods in Anhui

Foodmate News: Recently, the Anhui Provincial Administration for Market Regulation issued the 2026 No. 34 food safety sampling inspection information notice, organizing sampling inspections of 427 batches of samples from 24 food categories, and 11 batches of non-compliant foods were detected.

3 batches of food were found to have microbial contamination problems, namely: kale powder sold by Zhanjiang Fudi Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. on Pinduoduo (mobile App), labeled manufacturer name: Anhui Bencao Yitang Health Technology Co., Ltd. (entrusted manufacturer name: Guangdong Fudonghai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.), with mold non-compliant; dendrobium powder (solid beverage) produced and sold by Anhui Peifangtang Health Industry Development Co., Ltd. on 1688 (mobile App), with total bacterial count, coliform bacteria and mold non-compliant; and Bubu cake sold by Yuexi County Xinjiyuan Department Store Co., Ltd. Wenquan Town Xinjiyuan Life Supermarket, labeled as produced by Huaining County Hongpu Yonghe Food Factory, with coliform bacteria non-compliant.

Mold is an indicator index for evaluating food quality and safety. The mold count in food refers to the number of mold colonies formed in 1g or 1mL of a test sample after the sample has been processed and cultured under certain conditions. The reasons for excessive mold in convenience foods and solid beverages may be that the raw and auxiliary materials used by the manufacturer were contaminated; or that hygiene control during production and processing was inadequate; or it may be related to poor sealing of product packaging and improper control of storage and transportation conditions.

The total bacterial count is an indicator microbiological index that reflects the hygienic conditions of food during the production process. The National Food Safety Standard Beverages (GB 7101-2022) stipulates that for solid beverages, the total bacterial count test results of all 5 samples in the same batch shall not exceed 50000CFU/g, and at most 2 samples may have results exceeding 10000CFU/g. The reasons for excessive total bacterial count in solid beverages may be that the enterprise failed to strictly control the hygienic conditions of the production and processing process as required; or that the packaging containers were not properly cleaned and disinfected; or it may be related to poor sealing of product packaging or improper control of storage and transportation conditions.

Coliform bacteria are one of the commonly used indicator bacteria for food contamination. The detection of coliform bacteria in food indicates a relatively high possibility of contamination by pathogenic bacteria. The National Food Safety Standard Beverages (GB 7101-2022) stipulates that for solid beverages, the coliform bacteria test results of all 5 samples in the same batch shall not exceed 100CFU/g, and at most 2 samples may have results exceeding 10CFU/g. The reasons for excessive coliform bacteria in solid beverages may be contamination of processing raw materials and packaging materials; or contamination by personnel, tools and utensils during production; or it may be related to improper control of product storage and transportation conditions.

3 batches of food were found to have excessive pesticide residues, namely: soybean sprouts sold by Meng Fanzhu Vegetable Store in Yaohai District, Hefei City, with 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA) non-compliant; Lazimei (chili pepper) sold by Fengna Vegetable Business Department in Yingzhou District (individual industrial and commercial household), with clothianidin non-compliant; and Dishui Hongmei (black tea) sold by Huishan Zhenpin Huangshan Specialty Store in She County, labeled as produced by Huangshan Tianci Huizhou Tea Co., Ltd., with glyphosate non-compliant.

6-benzylaminopurine is a plant growth regulator. The Announcement on Prohibiting the Use of 6-Benzylaminopurine and Other Substances in the Production of Bean Sprouts issued by the former State Food and Drug Administration, the former Ministry of Agriculture, and the former National Health and Family Planning Commission stipulates that 6-benzylaminopurine is prohibited in the production of bean sprouts. The reason for the detection of 6-benzylaminopurine in bean sprouts may be that merchants illegally added it to make the sprouts thick and plump and to shorten the cultivation cycle.

Clothianidin is a neonicotinoid insecticide. The National Food Safety Standard Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Food (GB 2763-2026) stipulates that the maximum residue limit of clothianidin in chili peppers is 0.05mg/kg. The reason for excessive clothianidin residues in chili peppers may be that farmers increased the dosage or failed to comply with the pre-harvest interval requirements in order to quickly control pests.

Glyphosate is an organophosphorus herbicide. The National Food Safety Standard Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Food (GB 2763-2026) stipulates that the maximum residue limit of glyphosate in tea is 1mg/kg. The reason for excessive glyphosate residues in tea may be illegal use by tea farmers during cultivation.

3 batches of food were found to have out-of-scope or excessive use of food additives, namely: soaked chicken elbows sold by Xinmi City Tianliang Food Trading Firm on Pinduoduo (mobile App), labeled as produced by Suzhou Yifei Food Co., Ltd., with hydrogen peroxide non-compliant; mulberries sold by Xianhe Fruit Store in Yaohai District, Hefei City (individual industrial and commercial household) on Meituan, with dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt (calculated as dehydroacetic acid) non-compliant; and handmade corn oil pan-fried buns sold by Jiang Hongliang Dried, Fresh and Frozen Goods Store in Yingquan District, Fuyang City, labeled as produced by Dangshan Huijiayuan Food Co., Ltd., with tartrazine non-compliant.

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidant and can only be used as a processing aid for specific processes in the food industry. The National Food Safety Standard Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB 2760-2024) stipulates that hydrogen peroxide shall not be used in cooked meat products such as chicken elbows. The reason for the detection of hydrogen peroxide in soaked chicken elbows may be that the manufacturer used it illegally to improve appearance, bleach and enhance color, and extend shelf life.

Dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt are a preservative. The National Food Safety Standard Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB 2760-2024) stipulates that dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt shall not be used in mulberries. The reason for the detection of dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt in mulberries may be that some farmers or vendors sprayed/soaked them with dehydroacetic acid during harvesting and transportation in order to inhibit mold and extend the preservation time.

Tartrazine is a synthetic colorant. The National Food Safety Standard Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB 2760-2024) stipulates that tartrazine shall not be used in quick-frozen cooked cereal and rice products. The reason for the detection of tartrazine in quick-frozen cooked cereal and rice products may be that the enterprise used food additives beyond the permitted scope during production and processing.

2 batches of food were found to have quality indicators not meeting standards, namely: pomegranate wine (sweet type) sold by Huaishang Supermarket in Chenji Town, Huaiyuan County, labeled as produced by Anhui Chengguo Pomegranate Wine Brewing Co., Ltd., with alcohol content non-compliant; and glutamine powder (original flavor) produced and sold by Anhui Aerwen Biotechnology Co., Ltd., with sodium non-compliant.

Alcohol content is an important physicochemical indicator of alcoholic products, and substandard content mainly affects product quality. The reasons why the alcohol content of alcoholic products fails to meet the requirement stated on the product label may be that the enterprise's production process control is not strict or its production process level is relatively low, making it unable to accurately control the alcohol content; or that the inspection process was not standardized, resulting in deviations in test results; or that the packaging was not tightly sealed, causing alcohol volatilization.

Sodium is an essential macro-element for the human body. The National Food Safety Standard Labeling of Prepackaged Foods for Special Dietary Uses (GB 13432-2013) stipulates that within the product's shelf life, the actual content of energy and nutritional components shall not be lower than 80% of the labeled value. The reason for the sodium content in sports nutrition foods not meeting standards may be lax production process control or a relatively low production process level.
