Barton Group has expanded the application range of its patented dispensing pouch technology, SqueezyStraw. Headquartered in New York, the company partnered with Multivac to launch the stand-up pouch, initially trialed in an 8-ounce clear milk package.
The package features a squeeze function that makes it easy to squeeze out the milk.
Beyond milk, Barton Group President Lew Barton said the patented technology can be applied in many areas, including beverage, dessert, diet food and nutritional food packaging.
He said: 'This package is the only pouch with a straw function.' The SqueezyStraw stand-up pouch took more than three years to develop. 'Our new technology can be perfectly applied to a classic 8-ounce milk package, and its use is not limited — it can also be used for yogurt, chocolate pudding or desserts,' Barton said.
The SqueezyStraw stand-up pouch can range in capacity from 1 ounce to 3 gallons; the package is designed with a lower center of gravity, so it stands very stably. The new package offers the advantages of low cost, high-volume production, durability and portability, and anti-counterfeiting.
The most obvious change is that eating the product no longer requires a straw, spoon or cup, and the contents can be squeezed out more easily and quickly; the empty pouch is also easier to dispose of after use.
Barton Group plans to exhibit the SqueezyStraw pouch technology at the Beverage Forum in Chicago on April 27 - 28 and the Global Pouch Forum in Miami on June 14 - 16.
Barton Group has long supplied products and services to Dow Packaging, McDonald's, McCormick, KFC, Bemis Company and Tetra Pak.
