Focusing on Small-Order Printing, This Machine Is Highly Favored by Companies at Home and Abroad!

Recently, Packaging Frontier learned that four outstanding packaging enterprises in the industry — Zhongzhou Color Printing, Zhengzhou Xingzhong Packaging, Henan Yixing Color Printing and Henan Decheng Packaging — simultaneously purchased the Surpass350 electronic shaft printing machine from Jiaming Printing Machinery.

Why did these three color printing enterprises simultaneously purchase this Jiaming machine? What advantages does this machine have that make customers favor it so much? What other color printing enterprises have purchased this machine? With these questions in mind, we interviewed Mr. Cao Chengzhi of Jiaming Printing Machinery.

Packaging Frontier: Hello, Mr. Cao. When we interviewed you at the ChinaPlas international rubber and plastics exhibition in Shanghai this April, you mentioned that it was the debut appearance of the Surpass series. Could you first briefly introduce the development background of this equipment?

Mr. Cao: Yes. The Surpass series models were independently developed by our company, Jiaming, over nearly 3 years starting from 2021, and were only officially launched at the rubber and plastics exhibition in April.

The background of the development of this Surpass machine is that orders of flexible packaging enterprises are increasingly trending toward small batches and personalization, which has brought many troubles and pain points to packaging color printing enterprises: a large proportion of plate-making costs, long order changeover times, high labor intensity, large amounts of residual ink, solvent volatilization and many other problems.

1. Plate-making costs for small orders: In the past, the plate-making costs of small orders for packaging enterprises were borne by customers; now they are all borne by the packaging enterprises. For those enterprises mainly doing small orders, this means facing a very big cost challenge.
2. Order changeover time cost: Order changeover requires processes such as changing plates, changing pressure rollers, changing materials, changing inks and changing knives. These are basically all manual. Changing one order generally requires 3 people and takes 1h~1.5h. If 3~5 orders are changed in a day, then there is almost no running time in a shift, which also leads to a low machine utilization rate. Calculated this way, the cost of order changeover is very expensive.
3. Labor cost: At present, the employees of flexible packaging printing enterprises are mainly those born in the 1980s, with a small number born in the 1990s. High labor intensity and a poor environment make most young people unwilling to take up such jobs, and in the future there will certainly be a situation where it is hard to find even one worker.

Based on the above points, we began developing the Surpass series printing machine in 2021. When this machine was designed, the needs of different categories of customers were taken into account, so when it made its debut demonstration at the rubber and plastics exhibition, it received high praise from a large number of customers. Afterwards we held two more promotional demonstrations in Qingdao and Cangzhou, Hebei. Up to now, in addition to the three customers you mentioned above, Hebei Fenghai Color Printing, Anhui Yushi New Materials, and customers in South Korea, Indonesia and elsewhere have successively ordered this machine.

Packaging Frontier: So many enterprises have purchased this equipment. Could you introduce the specific advantages and features of this machine?

Mr. Cao: Specifically, the Surpass series printing machine has the following features:

1. Quick roller change

The roller change method of this machine can be made as sleeve-type roller change, or as three-roller impression. This can reduce roller change time by at least more than 30min, and also reduces one operator, further lowering labor intensity.

1. Automatic ink trough

The machine is equipped with an automatic lifting ink trough, which can achieve rapid lifting and lowering each time the ink is changed, saving about 15min in loading and unloading ink.

1. Dedicated to printing small plates

Without changing the top plate cone head: the shortest plate that can be mounted is 450mm, and the smallest plate circumference that can be mounted is 320mm, greatly saving plate-making costs for small-order customers.

1. Long-stroke pneumatic material ejection for unwinding and rewinding

The unwinding and rewinding directly cone-top a minimum material length of 290mm. Material change is fast, stable and safe, saving 10min compared with loading and unloading material with an air shaft.

1. Fully automatic registration

This machine is also equipped with a fully automatic registration function.

In addition to the above five features, the Surpass series printing machine also thoughtfully takes the following two points into consideration, which have also won considerable praise from color printing enterprises:

1. A reduced-air-volume and concentration-enhancing system that integrates concentration enhancement, energy saving and minimal solvent residue

(1) Stable VOCS concentration effect: each color can be stably controlled within 900m³, and 10-color printing can easily be controlled at ≤9000m³/h.

(2) The solvent residue of printed products is extremely low. We have conducted many extreme and destructive solvent residue tests internally, and the comprehensive solvent residue does not exceed 1㎎/㎡.

(3) Fugitive air in the workshop directly participates in air reduction, with no need to install separate floor exhaust.

(4) The inner layer of the oven is insulated on all three sides, giving fast heating, small heat loss and low energy consumption.

1. Safety three simultaneities

In recent years, many customers have updated to high-speed printing machines and have also upgraded the cleanliness level of their workshops, i.e., clean workshops. Due to changes in these two aspects, safety hazards have also increased. First, the increase in printing speed makes the friction static electricity between the film and the pressure roller greater; second, the airtightness of the clean workshop prevents outside humidity from entering. The probability of fire safety accidents caused by this increases. Jiaming has made the following static elimination configurations standard for this product series, which can effectively help customers avoid fire safety accidents.

(1) Static electricity

All units of the Surpass series are equipped with static eliminators as standard.

All rubber rollers of the entire Surpass series machine are conductive pressure rollers from Shanghai Yuncheng.

All parts of the entire Surpass series machine that require grounding use dedicated copper wire or copper clamps leading to static grounding piles.

All color units of the entire Surpass series machine are equipped with fire extinguishing stations.

(2) Customers are advised to build the foundation and static grounding piles in full accordance with the equipment and plant requirements.

(3) Before starting up in a new workshop, automatic sprinkler (atomizing constant-humidity) equipment must be installed and completed.
